General Processing Error

The General Processing Error is caused by one of two updates. Update KB5009543 breaks VPN functionality on Windows 10 and update KB5008876 breaks functionality on Windows 11. There are multiple fixes for these errors, please follow the steps below to fix them.

Option 1: Install Windows Updates

Windows 10

If the device is running Windows 10, you will need to install the KB5010793 update using the steps below.

  1. Open a web browser and download one of the following updates:
    1. Windows 10 64-bit 20H2, 21H1, 21H2: http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/software/updt/2022/01/windows10.0-kb5010793-x64_3bae2e811e2712bd1678a1b8d448b71a8e8c6292.msu
    2. Windows 10 32-bit 20H2, 21H1, 21H2: http://download.windowsupdate.com/c/msdownload/update/software/updt/2022/01/windows10.0-kb5010793-x86_6cbfa3aebe0bde1065fb8590da2813544a08fc2c.msu
  2. To install the update, double-click the update package when it downloads.
  3. When prompted, click Yes to install the update.
  4. Restart the computer when the update finishes installing.

Windows 11

Run Windows update to install the patch that fixes the issue.

Option 2: Uninstall the Updates

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Click Update and Security.
  3. Scroll down to and click View Update History.
  4. Click Uninstall Updates.
  5. Uninstall the bad update.
    1. For Windows 10, uninstall update KB5009543
    2. For Windows 11, uninstall update KB5008876
  6. Restart the computer.
