Free Windows 10 Upgrade

As of January 2022, the free Windows 10 Upgrade is still available. To claim the entitlement, follow the steps below. 

Prepare Windows for the Upgrade 

1. Remove any anti-virus software, this includes Microsoft Security Essentials. 
2. Remove any Intel, Nvidia or AMD User Experience Software. This includes Intel's Power Manager, Graphics Control Panel and Nvidia Control Panel. 
3. You can leave all other software unless explicitly stated by the Upgrade Tool. 

Prepare PowerShell 

1. Open PowerShell as an Administrator 
2. Run the following command: Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted 
3. Close PowerShell 

Download and Run the Tool 

1. Open a web browser and navigate to https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=799445 
2. Download the file and run it. 
3. Take the defaults of the upgrade tool. If you are prompted to remove software: 
   1. Close the Upgrade Tool 
   2. Uninstall the unsupported software 
   3. Restart the computer 
   4. Run the Upgrade Tool again. 

Secure PowerShell 

1. When the upgrade has completed, open PowerShell as an Administrator. 
2. Run the following command: Set-ExecutionPolicy Default
