Server Error 500 When Exporting Results

The 500 Server Error when exporting Content Search results can be caused by a couple of different things. Follow the options below to resolve your 500 error.

Use Microsoft Edge/Internet Explorer

To begin, eDiscovery is unsupported in 3rd party web-browsers such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. The eDiscovery download tool requires functionality built into Microsoft browsers to handle the download request. If you are unable to download Content Search Results using a 3rd party browser, try using Microsoft Edge. If that doesn't fix your issue, please try the other options below.

Verify that the Account Has Proper Permissions

To download Office 365 user data through eDiscovery, the user must have a set of defined Compliance Center Roles. Verify that you have the proper permissions by following this guide for Assigning eDiscovery Permissions. If the issue persists after permissions have been set, please proceed to the final option.

Wait

Once permissions have been set, it can take some time before they fully propagate across Office 365 servers. In most cases, permissions should propagate within 30 minutes. However, there are some reports of it taking 24 hours after permissions are set. Please contact Microsoft Office 365 Support if it has been 24 hours since you set the eDiscovery permissions and you are still unable to export results.
