eDiscovery Import/Export Permissions
Office 365 eDiscovery enables Administrators and Managers to search for and download data based off a set of conditions. However, only users with the proper permissions will be allowed to download the data. Follow the guide below to enable eDiscovery permissions for administrator accounts.
Assign eDiscovery Permissions
- Open Microsoft Edge and head over to https://compliance.microsoft.com
- Login with an Administrator account.
- On the right-hand navigation bar, click Permissions.
- Under the Compliance Center group, click Roles.
- Scroll down to and click Compliance Administrator.
- When the Role Pane opens, scroll down to Members and click Edit.
- Under Selected Members, click Edit.
- Click Add.
- Find and select the accounts that needs Compliance Administrator permissions.
- The Compliance Administrator role grants a user full control over the Compliance Center.
- There should be at least one Compliance Administrator.
- The Compliance Administrator does not have the ability to download eDiscovery exports.
- Click Add, then click Done and Save.
- Under the Compliance Center Roles list, find and click eDiscovery Manager.
- When the Role Pane opens, scroll down to eDiscovery Manager or eDiscovery Administrator and click Edit.
- eDiscovery Managers can only see requests/searches they create, whereas the Administrator can see all eDiscovery requests and searches.
- Under Selected Members, click Edit.
- Click Add.
- Find and select the accounts that need eDiscovery permissions.
- Click Add, then click Done and Save.
- You may need to wait up to 2 hours for the permissions to propagate across the servers.
Notes
Office 365 permission changes can take up to 2 hours to propagate across servers. If you are unable to search content or download results, please wait 2 hours before attempting again.
eDiscovery only supports Microsoft Edge.
